Project Location:
Twisp, WA

Project Description/Purpose:
This project was first identified by the landowner and Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) by an Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) application in 2002.  Since, a need for additional fencing to keep livestock out of the creek (beyond what was addressed in the EQIP application) has been identified.

Exclusion fencing will eliminate hoof-shear, thus reducing erosion and subsequently promote the recruitment of large woody debris (LWD), which in turn will increase shading and cool water refuge. By limiting the livestock access to the stream channel, streambed sediment is expected to be reduced and improve the channel conditions.

In addition, the project will include the installation of an off-stream stock watering facility. A new pump and pipeline will be installed to convey water uphill from a cistern to the stock water trough. Project design for the stock water delivery system will be designed by NRCS, and all implemented practices will be installed using NRCS standards.
