The Rocky Reach bypass system collects
juvenile fish before they reach the dam, returning them to the river
through a large pipe that terminates in the tailrace of the river.
At the Rocky Reach Dam, Chelan will continuously operate the bypass system from April 1 to August 31. Periodic fish capture information and other empirical data will be gathered, and the Coordinating Committee may modify the normal bypass operating period based on those results. Additional testing will occur once every ten years to verify that no more than 5% of juveniles are migrating outside the normal bypass operating period of April 1 to August 31 and to assure that the operations are adequately protecting 95% of the spring and summer migrations of the juvenile salmonid.
